I lived in Urley Nook and went to the primary school in Butts lane from 1952 to 1955 then onto Preston Primary when we got a house there.

I lived at the top of Yarm bank as a child and teenager. My brother and I had great fun careering downhill on our bogies, from Egglescliffe Church, to Yarm. The view is as I remember it from late 1950s, always quiet, and our local shopping town, especially at Burton's grocers, friends of my parents. With so much space, Yarm fair was always right in the town centre.
Wonderful photograph of Yarm Town Hall. Been living round there for 24 years alas it is not so quiet and peaceful at anytime of the day now, nor would you find an empty parking space at 12:35pm. On the same route, it takes me 15 minutes to walk there, and up to 40 minutes to drive there depending on traffic. Never noticed the weather cock on the hall or tv ariels perhaps I'm keeping a close eye on the traffic and stream of pedestrians, but the shop frontage has never changed thankfully.
